Braided vs. Spiral Hydraulic Hose – Which One Do You Need?
A Braided Hose (R1AT, R2AT) consists of one or more layers of steel wire braid wrapping around the inside tube. It is light-weight, flexible and well suited to medium-pressure applications such as agricultural equipment or mobile apparatus.
Spiral Hose (4SP, 4SH, R13, R15) is a completely different matter it employs a four or six-spiral steel wire (yes six spiral for R15), but it gives superior strength in very high-pressure terrain such as mining, construction, oil field and many more. These high pressure, flexible conduits endure the most extreme impulses and most demanding cycles.
Thermoplastic Hose for Small Bend Radius and PTFE Hose (SAE 100 R14) for Chemical Resistance. Please take into account your system's working pressure, temperature range and required minimum bend radius. Using the incorrect construction means you risk early failure or hazards.
